FAS Burner Management Systems

We have used our 25 years of experience designing and building complex burner management systems to create our own FAS range of products, all based on a TÜV certified, fail-safe control platform.

FAS1 Burner Management
FAS1 is an entry-level system designed for 1 to 2 burner, single fuel boilers and process heaters. It is our most cost effective burner management system (BMS) so far, based on the latest generation of fail-safe controllers. Certified by TÜV, the industry standard body for verifying functional safety, FAS1’s safety controller packs tremendous power into a small, cost-effective footprint.

The system’s architecture is actually based on a dual-controller solution, a conventional CPU for handling non-failsafe tasks and a safety CPU providing diagnostics and executive shutdown capabilities. IO modules are equally split into conventional and fail-safe types.

When coupled with the correct field devices this SIL3 capable logic solver provides the highest level of protection for burner sequences and combustion assets.

Designed to meet the requirements of BS799, EN298, EN676, EN746, EN12952-8, IGE-UP12 and IEC61511, our BMS is suitable for most single and dual-burner boilers and heaters.



FAS1 Combustion Control Option
If combustion control loops are required to accurately meter the air and fuel, FAS1 can be supplied with an optional multi-loop, cross-limiting, lead-lag sub-system (CCS).

Real-time, floating-point calculations continuously adjust the air and fuel mixture ratios to maximize heat release whilst optimizing combustion efficiencies, regardless of rising or falling demand. A safe level of excess air is maintained at all times with the value constantly monitored and alarmed if low.

These configurable master, air and fuel flow loops, with optional oxygen trim, are integrated into the non-failsafe standard controller and being ‘non-interfering’ they don’t compromise the SIL rating of the BMS.

In certain cases it may not be appropriate to integrate BMS and CCS into a single package so we have designed a stand-alone version to seamlessly integrate with FAS1 via a communications link, or any other BMS using a hard-wired interface.

FAS2 Burner Management
FAS2 uses the same platform as FAS1 but is designed for larger systems of up to 6, dual-fuel burners. In addition to FAS1 applications, this package can also be configured for use with HRSGs, thermal oxidizers and incinerators. It includes a greater degree of flexibility, for example, analogue pressure monitoring can be included on the main fuel lines and the system can be supplied in a pressurised panel for installation in hazardous areas.

FAS3 Burner Management
FAS3 is the most scalable and flexible of our ‘standard’ packages, accommodating 12, multi-fuel burners. It can be supplied in a high-availability configuration with varying degrees of controller, communication path and I/O module redundancy. Additionally, advanced features can be incorporated such as 2oo3 voting on fuel skid analogue interlocks such as fuel pressure transmitters. Furthermore, it is designed from the outset to work with most main-stream DCS packages.
